Dressage and Portraiture
Members' Photo Shoot

Equine Photographers Network Fall Photo Shoot

Join us for two days of photographic immersion in the world of dressage and portraiture. We will be joined by well known and respected dressage coach Lendon Gray and Olympic hopeful Courtney King and dressage riders of all levels. In addition Betty Cooper will lead us in portraiture.  We will have access to a world class facility with many great photo ops. This workshop will be limited to 15 participants.

Photographing dressage is exacting and challenging, and riders have very specific needs when it comes to photos. This will be your opportunity to learn the precise moments that dressage riders aspire to and to receive feedback from some of the top riders and trainers in the country. If you have been shooting dressage and would like to improve your skills in this discipline or you are interested in getting started then this is the workshop for you!

With Betty Cooper you will learn to capture the essence of the moment through the use of natural light, fill flash and reflectors. Learn to visualize and create pieces of work that will not only satisfy the client but create the opportunity for additional sales, using the rich resources available to photographers today. A great opportunity in a learning environment to share, experiment and learn from each other. We will plan to spend some time reviewing photos and portfolios as well. This will be the perfect opportunity for you to explore new techniques and expand your creative horizons.

We will be shooting at Sunnyfield Farm in Bedford, New York, and our lodging will be based at the Comfort Inn in Danbury, Connecticut. In addition to our shooting sessions we will have several sessions to review photos taken at Sunnyfield as well as a formal portfolio review session led by Carien Schippers and Betty Cooper. As time permits we will also discuss topics of interest to the participants.

Lendon and Courtney and all our models and riders will be invited to join us for the photo reviews so all participants can learn the do’s and don’ts of photographing dressage.

We have planned a fun shoot for Sunday morning that will include Utopia Percherons, a six horse show hitch of Percheron geldings.  They will be dressed in their show attire, including mane rolls, rosettes and tail bows.  Brian Lynch will drive the horses hitched to a restored Studebaker wagon.  The hitch will be driven through a 140+ acre estate that is nestled in a private valley in Cornwall, Connecticut, this country farm is located in a secluded setting on a dead-end road, with stone walls, ponds, and a stream hugged on three sides by State Forest.  There will also be an opportunity to photograph some of the world's finest Friesians.  If time allows Brian may even get out his shoeing tools for us.  You will not want to miss this exciting part of the workshop!

Plan to arrive on Thursday evening for a welcome dinner and stay until Sunday for three intensive days of shooting, learning, new friends and new experiences! Lunches and dinners as well as snacks and drinks are included in your registration fee. A hot breakfast will be available to those staying at the Comfort Inn. And there will be some great prizes from Tamrac and Hoodman! We are also planning a fun shoot for Sunday morning. The event ends Sunday afternoon.
