Equine Photo Workshop with Shelley Paulson

Equine Photographers Network Workshop

June 15 & 16 Workshop leader Shelley Paulson
Lexington, Kentucky

Experience the beautiful horses and landscapes of Kentucky while learning how to photograph the bond between horses and humans in a new, fresh and intimate way with portrait and equine photographer Shelley Paulson.

This workshop will run two full days with the morning of the first day being held in the Montgomery Inn meeting room, where there will be check in, introductions and a presentation by Shelley that will set the foundation for our workshop. Shelley will cover topics such as finding the light, connecting with your subjects, working with locations and finding your photographic voice, as well as an overview of the technical side of photography as it relates to horses.

After a break for lunch we will travel to area farms for hands on photography sessions. Our structured teaching times will include the privilege of photographing special needs kids and the horses used in their program. Shelley will give demonstrations of how she works with subjects, and then take a coaching role, helping others take great photos that their subjects and their families will treasure.

The second day will start early with a sunrise shoot at Keeneland racetrack where students are free to photograph on their own, a delicious lunch, and afternoon photo reviews. The workshop will wrap up with a late day tour to local thoroughbred farms to photograph mares with their foals and take advantage of the long days and beautiful evening light available this time of year.

Details

Because of the nature of this workshop, we are limiting it to 12 students. We strongly encourage only those who are interested in learning from Shelley how to photograph the horse/human bond to sign up. If you are primarily interested in portfolio building, please consider another route for accomplishing your goal and leave room for other participants who specifically want to learn the subject matter of this workshop.

Attendees flying in to the Lexington Blue Grass Airport can be picked up upon arrival and transportation will be provided to the Inn as well as to all shoots. We will also arrange pickup of attendees from the AHP conference in downtown Lexington, however please arrange your lodging at the Montgomery Inn in Versailles for the workshop itself. Check in at the Woodford the night before the start of the workshop is highly recommended. We will be using private bus transport for the duration of the workshop.

Transportation, meals, snacks and drinks are included in the workshop fee. Because of the personal nature of the workshops, spaces are limited, a waiting list will be maintained. Also note that the Inn has only 10 rooms reserved for us, so space is limited there as well. Sign up and make your reservations early! A deposit will hold your spot in the workshop!
